EDES 3205: Technological Assistance in Special Education

This course will offer basic information about Assistance Technology (AT) for people with disabilities. The purpose of it is that the future teachers acquire skills that allow them to increase their knowledge about the use, management and evaluation of AT equipment and/or materials. Both theoretical aspects will be included as practical. They will evaluate the technological integration strategies to achieve the processes of teaching and learning. Application of assisted technology for students with needs specials. Examples will be discussed, through which the student will be able to apply the basic knowledge acquired in the course on the use or design of equipment.

Classwork:

Vowel Flashcard

This report contains technological assistance created for students with the disability of deaf-blindness. This document contains brief information about the disability, how to create the assistance, and a short explicatory video of the purpose of the tool. 

Mathematical Pizza Model

This PowerPoint presentation contains information on low technology assistance created for students who struggle with math class. This project expects to help students learn about fractions in a contextualized form. This activity was fully prepared and created by me.

Reflection:

Taking this course taught me how to design didactic materials that are accessible and engaging to help unique needs of students with disabilities. I learned how to adapt content, use visuals and tactile elements, and create resources that support different learning styles. This experience helped me understand the importance of inclusive education and how thoughtful materials can make a big difference in a student’s learning journey.
